.......a David amongst Goliaths

The British Saloon Car Championship (1970 - 1972)

Highlighting the Triple-Winning Era of the Bevan- McGovern Imp

This book provides an overview of  the British Saloon Car Championship, from its inception in 1958,  and concentrates on the years 1970 to 1972. It was during this hotly-contested three-year period that Bill McGovern, driving the immaculately-prepared, and  astonishingly-quick Bevan-prepared Sunbeam Imp, took three consecutive British Saloon Car Championship titles in the process.

George Bevan was a genius! It's as simple as that! This unassuming, yet extremely affable gentleman, rewrote saloon car racing's record books. He took an Imp, one of automotive industry's underdogs, and with the help of his family, and Bill McGovern, a truly great driver, he made it into a giant-killer.

This is the story of how a 'David' took on and beat the 'Goliaths'. George, Bill McGovern, and the Bevan Imp were all but unbeatable. Their record of three consecutive championship wins in the British Saloon Car Championship has never been repeated. This is saloon car racing at its best...and with a very human face!

Included in this book are race reports, lap times, class records, race positions, racing incidents, anecdotes, personailty profiles, period advertisements, a plethora of period photographs, and much, much, more.

Foreword  by Jack Sears who was British Saloon Car Champion 1958 & 1963.
